About

SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka is a child-care organization dedicated to ensuring that every child grows up with love, respect, and a sense of belonging. Established in Sri Lanka in 1981 under an agreement with the Ministry of Social Services, SOS Children’s Villages provides high-quality alternative care for children who have lost parental care or are at risk of losing it. Children grow up in safe, stable, family-like environments, under the loving care of a dedicated SOS Mother, alongside their brothers and sisters, and are supported from early childhood through adolescence and into independent adulthood.
With over 44 years of service, SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka operates six Children’s Villages in Piliyandala, Galle, Nuwara Eliya, Anuradhapura, Monaragala, and Jaffna, alongside 10 Family Strengthening Programmes, reaching communities across 10 districts in the country. Our integrated care model is further strengthened through four Vocational Training Centres, and five Kindergartens. Over the past four decades, we have supported more than 50,000 children, young people, and families. Currently, over 750 children and young people receive care, protection, and education within our Children’s Villages, while more than 4,500 children benefit from Family Strengthening Programmes that help families stay together whenever possible. Our work focuses on holistic child development, encompassing care and protection, food and nutrition, safe shelter, formal and non-formal education, and preventive, curative, and psychosocial health services. Guided by strong child safeguarding principles, accountability, and sustainability, SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka works in partnership with communities, donors, corporates, and volunteers to create lasting impact ensuring that no child grows up alone.

Summary

We work to keep families together, provide alternative care when needed, support young people on their path to independence, and advocate for the rights of children. Together with donors, partners, communities and governments, we lay the foundations for a brighter future.
